After a customary summer hiatus, major US auction houses will begin with the fall auction season beginning this month. I am keeping a close watch on Barridoff Galleries and James D. Julia in particular, as they each have a fantastic offering of American art, and I am eager to see how the prices realized from their sales might, in effect, take the current pulse of the market for good investment quality American art.
Judging from the Barridoff Galleries Tweets, interest in their Aug. 7 auction is very high, so I am optimistic. James Julia has a 4 day auction extravaganza planned 8/25-8/29, and the art catalog alone was enough to make my head spin. Stellar offerings from both houses, and estimates on works offered do seem low. If you’re in the market, I strongly encourage you to check out their catalogs online. Can’t wait for the results!
